Understanding and identifying beginning letter sounds is an important skill that all kids will learn as they move through preschool. Make learning early reading skills fun with a Valentine’s Day theme this winter!
Included in this free printable is a set of 26 beginning sound punch cards that are a perfect way for your preschooler or students to practice and enhance their beginning reading skills. There are 6 hearts per page, each with its own letter, and several pictures to choose from for the beginning sound.
If you would prefer to use the hole punches and only use the resource a single time, I would suggest using it during small group sessions.
How to Use the Beginning Sound Punch Cards
Each full-color page has six letters per page. I would suggest laminating if you plan to use them multiple times, but for single use, you can simply print and cut.
Follow the included instructions and have the students identify the letter on the card, and then use the chosen method of identification for identifying the picture that begins with the letter.
Some ideas include:
- A hole punch ( punch out the correct picture)
- Stickers
- Tiny Pom Poms
- M&Ms
- Skittles
- Manipulatives
- Counters
- Mini Marshmallows
- dot markers
