Fall Harvest Literacy Activities for Preschool
Fall Harvest activities provide an exciting avenue for preschoolers to develop their literacy skills. Through everything from sight word books to word strips and worksheets there is something for everyone!
Sight Word Book “Can” (Printable)– Have student color and cut out the pages of this book. They will start to recognize the sight words I, can, and see with repetition.
Word Strips (Printable) – These word cards are great for emerging readers & spellers. You can place them in a pocket chart for easy display or simply paste them to the wall. Then students can copy the word when they need it. Seeing the words repetitively helps to learn sight words faster. The strips also have the option for copying the word right underneath for handwriting practice.
Beginning Letter Sounds (Printable) –Cut out each grid and have students use clothespins, dot markers, or dot stickers to choose the letter makes the beginning sound.
Beginning Sound Leaf Bites (Printable) – This activity allows each student to write a word, phrase or sentence within the arch cells of the rainbow about themselves. Images are included to support the younger students who aren’t quite writing but are able to make picture selections of their favorite choices to then cut and paste onto their rainbow all about me page.
Leaf Match Word Families (Printable) – Teach your students word families & rhyming words with this fun activity. Pumpkin Fizzy Art- Start with painting the pumpkin cutouts with baking soda paint first {2 TBSP baking soda +2 TBSP water} Then prepare colored citric acid solution { food colors + citric acid +water} and dip your paint brushes and gently place them on the baking soda solution.
Fall Tree in a Box Craft – Recreate this fall scene in box with our Fall Tree In a Box Craft! Using your craft supplies and a shoe box, a straw, fall coloured construction paper, paint and a clear plastic sheet, you can create a fall scene. Then use your own breath to move the leaves around!
Mixed Media Leaf Hair & Crown Craft – This fun and easy mixed media craft project is perfect for kids! They can create a beautiful leaf hair crown or headband on paper!
Raking Leaves Fall – Super quick and easy with lots of vibrant fall colors, this craft takes a chore and makes it into a fun event. This is a great fall craft to work on scissor skills.
Puffy Paint Pumpkin – Make some fun fluffy 3D pumpkins for a fall craft with your littles. It’s very easy and after you’re done you can make orange slime from it.

Fall/Harvest Physical Development Activities for Preschool
Fall/Harvest physical activities are a fantastic way to support the physical development of preschoolers.

Indoor Pumpkin Patch Hop- To make the pumpkins, use green masking tape to represent a stem on each orange domes. Then, arrange the domes on the floor for hopping and skipping on, and walking on, and any other movements your littles can make up!
Preschool Pumpkin Balance-Preschool pumpkin balance will challenge every family member to see who can walk slowly and steadily to the other side. Get the whole family involved with this activity!
Turkey Balance Challenge- Place your balancing surface on the floor. Print and cut out the colored turkey feathers from the freebie and tape them to the floor in a semi-circle around the balancing surface. Print and cut out the turkey head/body and add it to the middle of your turkey.
Ten Apples Up on Top – These movement activities for kids will be a challenge: to get apples safely into the baskets without using their hands. If they get good enough at it, try this activity on your next trip to the orchard.

Autumn Harvest Bingo Game Cards (Printable)- Students each take a board and the teacher or caller will cut out the calling pieces. Place them in a bowl or pile and pick them out one at a time. Call the name of the picture and show the class (if they don’t know what the name of the image is). Students will put a marker on top of the spot where the image is called. Fall Visual Discrimination Activity-Visual discrimination activities are important. When kids have to look at a set of pictures and identify which one is different, they’re practicing the skills they need to distinguish between letters and numbers.
Visual Perception Apple Activity-Nurture skills like visual perception development or fine motor. This visual perception apple activity promotes both of those areas in a fun and creative way by using paint, cut out scrub pads, and recycled apple sauce lids.
Cardboard Fall Nature Puzzle –Have your littles to gather a variety of leaves, acorns, chestnuts, and other interesting natural items that they find outside.
